It’s hard to tell where Indonesian group The Trees and The Wild see themselves in this increasingly genre-less musical landscape, but they certainly make an inspiring resonance. With 80s U2-like atmospherics, Arcade Fire bombast and a willingness to gradually build a song from the bottom up without sounding overtly post-rock (that in itself is a feat these days), they maintain a barrage of instruments bordering the orchestral. A perfect example is this plump track from the album Rasuk, chosen by Junk readers as the track blaring out their speakers throughout 2009. Do we agree? We say yes, yes and yes.
